During June, Carina hopes to attempt crossing the Strait of Bonifacio, swimming the +- 15km from Corsica (France) to Sardinia (Italy). This is a relatively new swim with, only a handful of English swimmers having completed a successful crossing in accordance with open water swimming rules. Two or three Italian swimmers have done the crossing in wetsuits over the years. This, as well as her attempt to complete a quadruple crossing of the Messina Straits on 20 June, is in support of the Little Fighters Cancer Trust (LFCT), a South African organisation that supports children with cancer and their families.
