Carina has been nominated for the 2021 World Open Water Swimming Association’s Woman of the Year Award, for her 21km Walker Bay crossing in aid of the Tribe fund, through which she raised more than R200,000.00 for performing artists in South Africa who are struggling due to the effects of covid-19.

“I’m beyond honoured to have been nominated”, says Carina. “The ability to make a small difference in a world and a country with so much suffering gives me a valuable sense of purpose, so it works both ways. To be in the company of open water swimming greats like Sarah Thomas,  Ana Marcela Cunha, Chloë McCardel and a handful other amazing swimmers and administrators (including SA’s very own Kerry Kopke!) is incredibly humbling. Here’s to more Swims for Hope! Let’s never forget how fortunate we are to be able to practicipate in this life changing sport, and how rad it is that we (yes, all of us!) can use it to do good – doesn’t matter how big or small the initiative!” ❤️

The public and open water swimming community is invited to vote in this and the various other categories on offer in the WOWSA Awards.
